Galatians 5:22-23 Amplified Bible (AMP)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
This morning I asked God to help me write something for this chapter, even though I am a business owner, I still fall a lot and can also not do anything without the grace of God.
At the back of my computer screen I stuck a verse there to remind me of the fruit of the spirit, so when I do sometimes treat someone not right, I can remind myself that anger is not part of the fruit of the spirit, and as I looked at the verse God revealed the following to me.
How do you evaluate your spiritual growth as a child of God? By the fruit you produce, and it’s exactly the same with your business. So in this chapter I will be explaining the 9 Fruit of the spirit for business. But before I explain that it’s important to first know what each word meaning is as well. So before I start with each word I will give a short explanation for that word as well.
Definition & business implementation of each fruit:
- an intense feeling of deep affection.
“babies fill parents with feelings of love”
synonyms: deep affection, fondness, tenderness, warmth, intimacy, attachment, endearment;
- a great interest and pleasure in something.
“his love for football”
synonyms: liking, weakness, partiality, bent, leaning, proclivity, inclination, disposition;
As fellow Children of God, our first and greatest commandment is toLove the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:36-40
With that being said, I believe it’s of self-knowledge that God wants us to run HIS business with love and tenderness towards our customers, employees and suppliers.
- a feeling of great pleasure and happiness.
“tears of joy”
synonyms: delight, great pleasure, joyfulness, jubilation, triumph, exultation, rejoicing, happiness, gladness, glee, exhilaration, ebullience, exuberance, elation, euphoria, bliss, ecstasy, transports of delight, rapture, radiance
Oh the joy of a big job coming in that you have been praying for so long! The absolute gratitude toward God for answering your prayers, but were you aware that we need to still have joy during the struggles as well? The word says in James 1:2-3 that “2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
WHAT? This verse makes it seem like we need to be more joyful when we are tested then getting blessed by our prayers being answered…
But in essence, if you think about it, when do you grow the most? When you get everything you want? Or by learning from past struggles?
Thank and rejoice with God in the trails as much as in the blessings.
- Freedom from disturbance; tranquillity.
“he just wanted to work in peace”
synonyms: tranquillity, calm, calmness, restfulness, peace and quiet, peacefulness, quiet, quietness, quietude, silence, soundlessness, hush, noiselessness, stillness, still
mental or emotional calm.
“The peace of mind this insurance gives you”
Synonyms: serenity, peacefulness, tranquillity, equanimity, calm, calmness, composure, placidity, placidness, rest, repose, ease, comfort, contentment, content, contentedness, security
- a state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended.
“The Straits were to be open to warships in time of peace”
Synonyms: law and order, lawfulness, order, peacefulness, peaceableness, harmony, harmoniousness, accord, concord, amity, amicableness, goodwill, friendship, cordiality, non-aggression, non-violence
There are so many bible verses about peace, but I feel that when we need the most peace in the business industry is when something does not go the way we intended it to go. In John 14:27 Jesus says “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
WOW! What reassurance does God give us in that verse? Isnt it just amazing to know that no matter what we need to take on in this life that God is always and will always be there to guide us though it? The battle has already been won on the cross, Jesus just need to take our hands and lead us to the path of understanding that we can stop trying to fight our way to the top, or for the best project etc. because HE has already overcome, HE has already have each business clients in line for everyone at the right time and place.
So have peace in your heart that no matter what happens, Jesus has given you peace, you already have it. NOW MAKE USE OF IT!
The capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.
“You can find bargains if you have the patience to sift through the rubbish”
Synonyms: forbearance, tolerance, restraint, self-restraint, resignation, stoicism, fortitude, sufferance, endurance;
This word “ Patience “ can be implemented in so many fields of business, patience to wait for a big breakthrough in your business/workplace, patience with an employee that is not working according to your pace, patience to not kill your business partner with your words because he/she does not agree with you, patience with w difficult client, there is so many, but I think two thing that we all sometimes struggle on is patience to wait on God for prayer answers and patience to know when not to argue with a client, employee or suppliers. In Proverbs 15:18 it states that “A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.” If you are going to flip the script before anything else and immediately react when something does not go your way or you have to wait longer for the report from your admin assistant that started a week ago then you are more likely to stir up conflict then solve it, rather go to that person with a loving and gentle heart and ask if you can give guidance to help with what they are struggling with.
And then patience on God:
Take a moment an meditate on the following verse and ask God to give you proper understanding regarding this verse; Psalm 37:7-9
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. 9 For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
What a powerful verse! How patient are you with God? As we all know that God’s time is not ours and we can sometimes get so frustrated when we done get what we prayed for immediately, its time that we ask God for proper understanding in patience in Him, to still have faith while we waiting on Him. Don’t be jealous when another business reached an achievement before you did, or got the achievement you wanted or prayed for, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
I know it may be hard sometimes, but the sooner we grasp that God is our father that also protects us, as we as parents protect our children, so does God. Or another example, when your child askes for a sweet at 8pm at night, will you give it to him/her? No, because you know it’s not good for them to eat sweets that late at night, it does not mean they will never get that sweet, but JUST NOT NOW! And I think sometimes God tells us the same “ Yes, BUT JUST NOT NOW” And as followers of Christ we need to start respecting the word of God and not through a tantrum every time we don’t get what we want.
But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. Romans 8:25
The quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.
“He thanked them for their kindness and support”
Synonyms: kindliness, kind-heartedness, warm-heartedness, tender-heartedness, goodwill, affectionateness, affection, warmth, gentleness, tenderness, concern, care;
I have come across many business men and woman that did not have a drop of kindness in them that treats you like garbage because they had a bad day, or they think they are above you because of their “success”. And in that tunes, for me personally it’s so hard to still be kind when someone treats you in a disrespectful manner, but yet, that is what God expects of His children. To be kind and loving toward ALL people, no matter what their reaction is, yours should always be as if it was Jesus right in front of them.
Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32
With that being said, it’s also of importance to not become the one that is unkind to your clients, employees and suppliers, and if you are in that situation that you truly repent and apologies to the person you have treated badly.
Always strive to have the kind heart Jesus has and treats you with.
The quality of being morally good or virtuous.
“A belief in the basic goodness of mankind”
Synonyms: virtue, virtuousness, good, righteousness, morality, ethicalness, uprightness, upstandingness, integrity, principle, dignity, rectitude, rightness
How do you implement goodness in your business? Are you good to others or just to yourself? Your own circle? Or are you looking for opportunities to be good to other people? The word says in Galatians 6:10 “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” This verse emphasises on to grab every opportunity to do good to people, especially to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
But, we sometimes have the attitude that, he/she has not ever done anything good towards me, why should I be kind to them? Well its actually quite simple, BECAUSE YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD, and being a child of God, God requires us to be Jesus-like. Not reacting on our own emotions, but to be kind and tender hearted regardless.
Make the choice today, to grab every opportunity to do good and to be good to other people.
The quality of being faithful; fidelity.
“Faithfulness in marriage”
Synonyms: fidelity, loyalty, constancy, devotion, trueness, true-heartedness, dedication, commitment, allegiance, adherence;
I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service – 1 Timothy 1:12
Will God look at you one day saying “‘well done, good and faithful servant!”? I think we might sometimes forget that offering a service in business means that we need to serve clients every day, but we were also put in business to serve people we come across in our business spiritual. For how many of your clients or employees business, family or children have you prayed for? Have you ever served a client or employee by asking them, “What can I do for you today? “Without wanting anything in return? And as we are servants of God, God expect of us to serve His children on earth and not to always want something in return the whole time.
Matthew 25:23 can also be put in another way; it says “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ If God cannot trust you with the little you already have, then He will not be able to bless you with more.
If you do not care and treat your 5 clients in a loving way now that God has entrusted you with them, the He will not be able to bless you with 10 clients, and so on.
Take responsibility with the little you have and God will supply you with more!
The quality of being kind, tender, or mild-mannered.
“Michael was admired for his gentleness and tolerance”
Synonyms: kindness, kindliness, tenderness, benignity, humaneness, humanity
Gentleness can be implemented in many ways, the way we act, speak and do our work. But for me the most important thing is on how we speak about our business, about our employees, about our clients and about our suppliers. Are you talking to them in gentleness? But most importantly, is your speaking ABOUT them in a gentle way? A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Proverbs 18:21
We sometimes don’t even realise that we speak death over our business, clients, supplier or employees. What does the word say about murder?
21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. 23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift. 25 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny. Matthew 5:21-26
After reading this verse, how many people have you murdered? How many times do you speak death over something? If you tell yourself that January the business won’t be doing well because no
one has money in the beginning of the year, and then guess what? Don’t moan if your business is not doing good in January if you have already spoke it out months before. Rather start speaking life into everything, start speaking out that your business will flourish every month of the year, because our CEO Jesus Christ has it all under control!
So from today, before you say anything about your business or other people, first ask yourself if it’s going to kill your business/people or going to grow them.
The ability to control oneself, in particular one’s emotions and desires, especially in difficult situations.
“Lucy silently struggled for self-control”
Synonyms: self-discipline, self-restraint, restraint, control, self-mastery, self-possession, will power, strength of will, composure, coolness;
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
Having self-control in business might be hard some days, but I think that when we have first master it, it will be a breeze. If you have the spirit of God in you then you already have power, love and self-control put inside of you, but we just need start learning how to use it.
When you are put in a situation where you need to make a decision if you are going to do the job with a sly partner where you can make double your income in one job, or say no to that and rather do honest jobs that glorifies God in your work.
I believe that if we implement these 9 steps in our business that God will step in with all His might and bless our businesses beyond measure. When you are tempted, bow your head and ask God for strength to overcome what you are struggling with.
Always have a Jesus-like heart toward everything.
Heavenly Father, we thank you today that you have given us a spirit of power, love and self-control, we thank you father that we can always turn to you when we are not sure about what to do, or what decisions to make. We thank you God for always taking the lead in our business. We ask you father God to mould us in your liking, so that we can always portray all these fruits in ourselves and in our business and towards others. I rebuke anything that stands in our way of becoming our true self in Christ in the name of Jesus. I ask you Father God that you will be our leader in all we do; I ask you Father God that you will bless our businesses in abundance so that we can bless others! Let mana rain over us Jesus and let us not be selfish in our ways Father God. Forgive us in the times that we lose sight of you and we sin. Let us be an example to those we encounter daily Father God. In Jesus name, Amen
